Tasting Notes
Peggy and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary in the Spring of 2006 by taking a trip to France with two of our closest friends. While in Burgundy we had the opportunity to spend time with Chassagne-Montrachet's highly respected wine producer, Marc Colin. Using an interpreter, Marc's son Daniel shared his winemaking techniques for crafting one of the "old world's" finest Chardonnays. Needless to say, we were hooked.
The following harvest we sourced two tons of Chardonnay from Milbrandt Vineyard. My assistant winemaker, Tim Drake, and I aged the Chardonnay on French oak (30% new) for eight months. We experimented with cultured and wild yeast and held the 2006 Chardonnay for nine months in bottle. It has many characteristics I personally look for in a Chardonnay; rich mouthfeel, traditional Chardonnay flavors and aromas and a long, lingering finish. I look forward to sharing it with you.
